Chateau Barka

Chateau Barka

Chateau Barka, based in Lebanon's most famous wine region in the Bekaa Valley, started a little more than 10 years ago, when the five brothers of the Geagea family wanted to establish a winery in the tiny mountain village of Barka at an altitude of 1,450 meters. From the beginning, the brothers' goal was to create a winery that meets today's quality standards, and with a competent team, they also quickly achieved their goal.

The vines covering the farm's 15 hectares grow on fertile soil, where they get plenty of sunlight. Barka's team also spends a considerable amount of time studying different soils in their laboratory and restoring previously abandoned vineyards to their glory. Hisham Geagea, one of the brothers, who graduated as an oenologist from Montpellier, is in charge of the vineyards and winemaking. During his studies, Hisham gained his understanding of the classic wine regions of France, Gigondas, Sancerre and St. Émilion. In the cellars there is a line of Italian steel tanks and French oak barrels.

The farm cultivates several different grape varieties, including Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Muscat, Viognier, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Today, Chateau Barka's annual production is around 150,000 bottles. Although the farm has the opportunity to gradually increase its production to 250,000 bottles per year, the quality of the wine is much more important to them than the number of bottles produced.
