Paolo Saracco Eng

Saraccon viinitila sijaitsee Castiglione Tinellan alueella, 25 km:n päässä Alban ja Astin kylistä, ja on kuuluisa ennen kaikkea herkullisesta moscato d’Astistaan. Kunnioitettavaan sadan vuoden ikään ehtinyt tila perustettiin 1900-luvun alussa. Viljelysten kokoa on kasvatettu määrätietoisesti kolmen sukupolven ajan ostamalla lisää laatuviinin tuotantoon sopivaa maata.

Tila tuottaa noin 650.000 pulloa moscatoa vuodessa.

Paolo Saracco’s family winery is situated in Langhe, Piemonte in the village of Castiglione Tinella. The Moscato d’Asti producer is only 25 km from the famous parishes of Alba and Asti. The name of Saracco has an almost cult-like following and his wines have received high praise from the most respected wine publications.

Saracco is a winery of distinguished age having been founded over a hundred years ago in 1900. For the first 88 years Saracco concentrated on growing grapes and selling them on. In 1988 Paolo Saracco, having studied oenology, decided to move the direction of the winery from growing grapes to making wine. He started to make is own wine and thus was born the Moscato d’Asti that carries his name.

Saracco has 50 ha of vineyards around the villages of Castiglione Tinella, Santo Stefano Belbo, Castagnole Lanze and Calosso. The soils of his vineyards are layered sand, loess, clay and limestone. The property concentrates on the production of Moscato Bianco which they produce 650 000 bottles of a year. They also grow smaller amounts of Chardonnay, Riesling and Pinot Noir but their production is less than 10 000 bottles a year.

The character of Saracco’s Moscato d’Asti and the origin behind it is aptly summed up in Paolo’s description: “Saracco Moscato is as sweet and charming as the hills on which it is born and on which it grows; as lively and as clearly outlined as the mountains stretching out in the horizon that protect the view; as refreshing and bubbly as the wind blowing from the Alps onto the hills. Served chilled the delicate Moscato with persistent mousse is as fresh as a shower on a hot summer day.”
