Arendsig Single Vineyard Wines
The philosophy of Arendsig winery based in Robertson, South Africa, is to make top quality single vineyard wines that show unique soils, climate and origin. The wines made by Lourens van der Westhuiz are terroir wines in its genuine sense. Minimal intervention is the way at Arendsig when it comes to winemaking: they use wild yeasts and neutral vessels that won’t affect the true character of the wines. The winery has 11ha of vines where Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Viognier is grown.
Arendsig is in Bonnievale, southern Robertson, 150km east of Cape Town. The winery is in a valley between two mountain ranges and the terroirs vary between different plots. The soils of the Breed riverbed vineyards is largely sand, whereas the vines on the hillsides are planted in rugged, extremely dry stony ground. The hillside vineyards receive water from the Du Toits Kloof and Ceres mountains through a micro-irrigation system.
